Laminate Flooring

Transform your space by installing laminate floors which are durable and affordable.

Why Laminate Floors?

When you’re into the style of hardwood flooring but not so much the price tag, laminate flooring is a great option. Laminate flooring has only been around for a few decades but is still one of the fastest-growing flooring options in the flooring industry. It is perfect for budget-conscious shopper who still wants the beauty hardwood brings without the associated cost. Not only that but its improved durability has made it a popular choice as well.

Laminate flooring can be compared to laminated kitchen countertops, which are combinations of layers of wood and melamine plastic designed to look like real wood, stone, or even marble.

Professional installation by Champion Floor is a breeze with the use of tongue and groove interlocking. Concrete, plywood, sheet vinyl, hardwood, or any other flat hard surface is fitting for laminate flooring. Recently manufacturers have introduced glueless and pre-glued products that can cut installation time in half. As a result, there is no need to wait for the glue to dry, you can walk on your new floors immediately.

About Laminate Floors

Laminate stands up to high traffic and is designed to look good for years. But aside from that, there are other advantages:

  • Excellent for allergy sufferers
  • Wear and stain-resistant
  • Minimal wait time after installation
  • Extremely difficult to scratch or burn
  • Installs over most existing substrate

Laminate floors are truly beautiful and affordable in every way. Champion's flooring experts will assist you every step of the way from design to the installation of your next project.

Champion Floor offers many laminate flooring options for your home or business.

What is Laminate Flooring Made of?

Laminate is known as a “hybrid” floor because of its high-density fiberboard (HDF) core topped with an image layer and wear layer.

Wear layer

Laminate wear layers are often waterproof and protect the floor from scratches and stains. They can include rougher, more natural-feeling textures.

This holds the pattern or print, making the laminate look like wood and stone.

Core layer

Made of compressed high-density fiberboard, this layer gives the floor durability and stability. It’s water-resistant but not necessarily waterproof. The core layer is also where the locking system is located.

Backing

Backing

Backing keeps moisture from penetrating the subfloor. A high-grade backing protects the laminate floor from peaking and moisture damage.

What Is “AC Rating” for Laminate Flooring?

The Abrasion Class (AC) rating determines how much traffic your laminate flooring can handle.

  • AC1: Sufficient for bedrooms and closets.
  • AC2: Perfect for family rooms, living rooms, and dining rooms.
  • AC3: Great for high-traffic residential spaces and light commercial use.
  • AC4: Fantastic for residential spaces and commercial areas with medium foot traffic.
  • AC5: The best option for heavy commercial applications.

What Are the Disadvantages of Laminate Flooring?

Laminate is great, but like all things in life, it has its disadvantages too.

Moisture

Laminate can be susceptible to moisture. But with advancements in flooring technology, there are now water-resistant and 100% waterproof laminate options.

Refinishing

Laminate flooring’s synthetic construction does not allow it to be refinished like solid wood.

How Are Laminate and Vinyl Flooring Different?

In a way, they are close cousins, providing easy installation, competitive pricing, and similar wood looks.

One difference, however, is that vinyl flooring is made of 100% synthetic material and has a PVC or SPC core. Additionally, the range of vinyl thicknesses is greater than what laminate can offer.

Are Laminate Floors Waterproof?

In short, yes. There are both water-resistant and waterproof options. Waterproof laminate does not allow moisture to penetrate the flooring, whereas water-resistant laminate, although resistant to moisture, eventually absorbs liquids if left unattended.

With 100% waterproof laminate, cleanup is simple, as liquids stay on top of the surface. Just wipe them off for stain-free floors.
