Maplewood floors are a solid choice to give your space a new look
The tree boasts several colors and shades.
The most common color for this hardwood is white, but you might also find brown maplewood floors. There’s no shortage of choices here. Want the perfect hardwood floor? Read on to learn more about how great maplewood floors can be!
Originating from Canada and the northern United States, maplewood comes from the tree of the same name. The color varies from creamy white to dark brown. The grain isn’t super noticeable, but acts as a unique accent to any space. Maplewood is adored by many. Check out the benefits of maplewood floors:
Maplewood is one of the toughest materials you can choose for a floor. Because of its density, it takes a lot to scratch or gouge it. Standing the test of time, you won’t notice damage until late in your floor’s life span with proper maintenance. Although it’s not the boldest look, maplewood is super versatile. It shines in modern homes because the grains don’t stick out like a sore thumb. They blend in with the wood unless you’re looking for them.
Maplewood comes at a variety of price points. You can pay less for certain materials if you don’t want to break the bank. There are also opportunities to pay more for your floors to match your high end home.
Yes, some trees will come down for you to get your maplewood floors, but maple trees are some of the fastest growing species. Plus, most of the tree is used for the floor, so they’re very sustainable.
Maplewood floors have their own unique installation process. A plywood subfloor is still required, but a moisture-resistant one makes your floors last longer.
Before beginning the installation process, a layout of the room is drawn up. It acts as a guideline for where to place the boards.
Your contractor will begin by applying a parquet adhesive to the subfloor. The installation begins in the middle of the room. The planks are then nailed down and a space is left next to the walls to stop the floor from swelling if it expands.
The floor is sanded to make for a quick cleanup. Next, dust is removed from the floor to prevent particles from developing into allergens later. Then the floor’s surface is coated in varnish at least three times and the skirting boards are nailed down.
For the best results, your contractor will be thorough when installing your maplewood floors. Mistakes can cause huge problems later, so you should always call a professional.
