How are Site-finished hardwood floors installed?

Site-finished hardwood floors follow the standard installation process, but there are a few extra steps. At Champion Floor Company in St. Louis, we’ll set you up with a professional contractor to ensure the whole process goes smoothly. Here are the steps to installing Site-finished hardwood floors.

Your contractor will begin by ensuring the subfloor is level by filling in gaps with leveling compound and reducing high points with a belt sander.

Then a moisture barrier is stapled to the floors. It’s made of materials such as tar, kraft paper, vinyl sheeting, and clear plastic.

Next, your contractor will face nail the first row of boards to line up with their layout mark. The next row is blind nailed through the board tongues with a finish nailer. The process is continued until there isn’t enough space to use the flooring nailer.

The previous step is then repeated with a finish nailer from the other side of the room.

Lastly, it’s time to finish your floors. Your contractor will seal the planks to prevent moisture from getting in between them. Then the floor is sanded, smoothed out, cleaned, stained, sealed, and finished. This process is done up to three times, depending on the look you want.
