History of Vinyl

Mudrooms, entryways, toy rooms, laundry rooms, ANY room with high traffic or kids and pets running around. You need a floor that can withstand a lot.

Thankfully, in 1872, chemist Eugen Baumann invented vinyl, and it was presented to the public in floor form at the 1933 Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago. As they say, the rest is history.

Now we have all kinds of vinyl flooring St. Louis to fit any kind of style, taste, and design.

Different Tyes Of Vinyl Flooring

In the 1960’s you could find marvelous flower patterns to checkerboard styles in groovy colors. Then came the 70’s, and we started seeing new incarnations of vinyl, including something that KINDA looked like wood, luxury vinyl plank, as well as luxury vinyl tile.

Fast forward to today, and there is a slew of vinyl floor types, for both Standard and Luxury vinyl flooring.

Tile Vinyl Flooring in St. Louis

Vinyl Tile Flooring is exactly as it sounds, vinyl flooring in tile form. It consists of individual squares that, when assembled, look like stone tile. A huge benefit of tiles is when one gets damaged, you don’t have to replace the entire floor. You can also mix and match patterns if you’re feeling frisky.

Plank Vinyl Flooring

Plank Vinyl Flooring

Plank Vinyl Flooring gives your floor the appearance of real hardwood, without the corresponding price tag. Vinyl planks also provide durability and stain resistance as compared to traditional hardwood.

Vinyl Sheet Flooring

Vinyl Sheet Flooring is a single roll of flooring (think gym class when they used to roll out the blue mats) about 6 to 12 feet wide. This type of flooring minimizes the number of seams, for an even and consistent look. A big benefit is that it’s great for high-moisture areas, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and mudrooms.

About Vinyl Floors

Even more recently, another two types of flooring have entered the scene, Wood Plastic Composite and Stone Polymer Core. Both are types of flooring called EVP. It’s one of the fastest-growing product categories in the flooring industry. EVP is waterproof, durable, and quiet.
EVP flooring, or engineered vinyl plank, has four layers:

  • First there is the wear layer, a plastic transparent protective layer that coats the top of the EVP, also known as the veneer.
  • The second layer design. It is where floor’s appearance sits. This layer is made of vinyl and can resemble wood, stone, or any other decor. It is this layer that gives the floor its realistic look.
  • Next is the core film layer. It is a rigid core made of wood polymer composite or stone polymer composite and is excellent for areas with minor irregularities in the subfloor. There is sometimes a bottom layer of cork used for cushioning and sound absorption.
  • Last but not least, there is the base film layer. Its purpose is to separate the core from the floor. It is typically a thin layer of rubber attached to the bottom of the plank.

No matter the room, no matter the style, you can find whatever you need with vinyl flooring.
