Your contractor will begin by removing the old carpet and padding from the room and vacuuming the subfloor clean. Next, an extra tack strip will be nailed down alongside the original tack strips.

Then it's time to spread padding adhesive onto the floor along the  walls and at all seams. The padding is set down on the subfloor and the seams are secured. Now, the carpet is rolled across the room and is cut to fit around wall corners. When seaming pieces of carpet, a cushion-back cutter is used to trim its edges.

Next, your contractor will apply latex seam sealer to the carpet's edges and let it dry. Then seams are aligned and seam tape is slopped underneath them. The adhesive tape is activated with a seaming iron. A knee kicker hooks the edge of the carpet onto the tack strips and the carpeting is pushed down onto the tack strip with a stair chisel. Any excess carpeting along the wall is cut with a double-blade wall trimmer. You can also see wall coverings.

Now, a knee kicker and stair chisel force any rough-cut carpet edge into place between the tack strip and baseboard.
