What are you using to clean your hardwood?
This is probably the MOST asking question… our customers are asking us, “what should I be using?” and we are asking them, “what have you been using?” And the answers matter!
Let’s tackle what you should be using first. For sealed hardwood floors (urethane finished hardwood) you should be using a floor cleaner that is approved for hardwood and does not leave a film. As Bona Certified Craftsmen, we love Bona maintenance products. They are superior for several reasons, but most importantly they are going to clean your floors without leaving a film.
Now let’s move on to what many people have been using. There are a lot of products on the market that offer to restore your floors. I am here to tell you that cleaners don’t restore urethane finishes. Products claiming to restore your hardwoods to their old brilliance will most certainly be coating your floors with a temporary shiny film. That shine WILL dull over time. The real problem though, is not that the shine isn’t permanent. The real problem is that the film is permanent. So you are basically left with filmy, dull, dirty floors. The only fix for most of these dulled out “restoring cleaners” is to re-sand your floors. You read that right. The cure for badly coated floors is a complete re-sand. That’s why the floor cleaner you use is so important.
So if you’re looking for floor cleaner in St. Louis I invite you to stop into Champion Floor Company to buy a bottle or two of the RIGHT cleaner, like Bona. We have kits to get you started on the right foot. If you have already been using something that is leaving your floors dull, give Champion Floor Company a call to see if it is something we can help you with. Either way, if you are unsure, give us a ring.
