Change up the look of your home with wide plank hardwood flooring
From its unique aesthetic to the way it opens up a space, it’s easy to see why this hardwood has become so popular over the years.
Wide plank hardwood is a great choice for many spaces. Here’s what makes it special.
Compared to their counterparts, wide plank hardwood floors are made up of larger floor boards. Regular floor boards are often two to four inches in length. While wide planks have widths ranging from six to 20 inches. There are a few reasons to choose wide plank hardwood floors. Here are some of the popular ones:
If your space is on the smaller side, consider these fancy floor boards. Some areas of the home feel cozier than we would like them to be. However, the length and width of these floor boards give the illusion of a larger space. Wide planks tend to showcase the wood’s grain and texture. Noticeable imperfections give rooms plenty of character. Interested in a cabin feel or adding new floors to your cottage? Look no further than wide plank hardwood flooring.
Hardwood floors are at the top of almost every buyer’s checklist. Are you selling your home or space soon? If you are, you’ll get top dollar because of your wide plank hardwood floors. These floors have fewer seams, which makes the wood look more natural. In turn, your floors will appear wider and the wood’s grains will be more visible. It makes your space and floors unique.
Installing wide plank hardwood floors is fairly straightforward. The process differs, depending on what floor you’re covering up. Plywood subfloors and concrete slabs are the most common surfaces contractors come across. Two frequent methods are glue down and nail down installation.
With plywood subfloors, your contractor will begin by applying adhesive to the floorboards. Then they will blind nail the board length with a pneumatic nailer and face nail the end of each board.
In the case of concrete slabs, your contractor will use adhesive to secure the flooring to the ground. It’s common to use a moisture vapor barrier to prevent moisture from seeping through concrete.
When working with a plywood subfloor, your contractor can also nail down your new floors. Your contractor begins by applying a paper moisture barrier and creating a working line to the wall. They will then install the first row with the groove side facing toward the wall. Then the process is repeated with each additional row. The planks are staggered to create a distinct pattern.
